Day 4: Vernon to Glacier National Park to Yoho National Park to Banff
We have complimentary breakfast nice and early ready for the next stage of Archers Direct coach tour. Today we continue to Glacier National Park, where the coach climbs up through the 4,379 feet high Rogers Pass. We then experience the beauty of Yoho National Park, one of Canada's most popular recreational areas and site of Precambrian fossil finds. We drive through Kicking House Pass at 5,421 feet and reach Banff National Park by early evening. (The gateway to the majestic Canadian Rockies)
En route Bryce gives us fantastic commentary, reminding us that we are at higher altitude, ie above sea level and to take it easy as one might become short of breath or find the walking tougher than usual.
We have many pitstops on the way the highlight being the Natural Bridge at Yoho National Park.

Just before we get into Banff we begin to see snow on the mountains (We are informed that the snow is fresh and only 2/3 weeks old. We arrive in Banff and have a quick drive through tour of Banff Avenue where all the restuarants, shops and hotels are. We check in at the Spruce Grove Inn Hotel, 545 Banff Avenue, Banff.
The rooms are quite nice, we would rate the hotel 3.5 stars maybe 4. We find a card on the bedside table encouraging us to have a fantastic honeymoon. We freshen up and hit the road and discover the beauties of Banff.
The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from downtown Banff, along the highstreet we see a Safeways supermarket, we buy rain proof overalls, Kim buys some clothes as we continue our adventure.

We go and visit the Banff Springs Hotel, which is about 10 minutes walk from the downtown Banff in the other direction. As we get there we find that its quite touristy. You can walk through the complex, we made our way through to the back of the hotel. When we got outside we could see an outdoor swimming pool, we could see a gym and their view from the pool was absolutely amazing. Inside the hotel there are shops, at tourist prices, its quite a vast building and worth a visit.
As the day wears on we make our way to Grizzly House Restaurant. We found by about 19:00 restaurants are getting full and bookings may become necessary after this time. We got seats outside and ordered wild game sausage (Buffalo/Caribou sausage, smoked and served with wild berry chutney, pickles and bread) for starters. Which tasted fantastic. For the main meal Kim ordered buffalo steak and I had a T-Bone steak both cooked to perfection. The restaurant had a nice buzz to it and a very good atmosphere, whilst we were there we nosed around other tables and they had fondues and hot rocks. The restuarant specialises in Alberta Beef, exotic game meats and seafood including shark, alligator, rattlesnake, ostrich, frogs legs, buffalo, venison etc etc.
As we leave the restaurant, we head for Star Bucks, Kim goes for a nice warm tea with soya milk and me the nutter that I am a Mocha Frappacino, theres a positive vibe in Banff and we make our way back to the hotel to chill for the evening.
