Day 5: Banff
We wake up nice and early and head out of the hotel to the next block down for breakfast. Our first adventure of the day was the helicopter excursion. A 30 minute flight seeing tour, we see fantastic views of the Mount Assiniboine Range (the Matterhorn of the Rockies) on this excursion we see numerous glaciers and icefalls. This excursion is a definate must, the helicopter was no different than flying in an airplane in my opinion as I was a bit apprehensive at first. But I am glad I did it.

As we take off we fly into the valleys some fantastic awesome views that you cannot see from ground level. We then fly towards glaciers and see some ice waterfalls. As we go from the greenery towards the glaciers we notice quite a temperature change. Quite an awesome experience as we hover a few feet above some glaciers. We fly to a max of about 9000 feet and at speeds of 120mph.

After that we head back into downtown Banff for a spot of lunch. We went to a chinese restuarant for a quick bite, before heading up to Sulphur Mountain on the 4 seater gondola. The chinese was ok, quite fair standard but compared to the food on the rest of the tour so far then it was below that quality.

We arrive at the mountain and head for the gondola.

Wildlife on Sulphur Mountain
On the gondola on the way up you could see the footpath that the walkers face. Fantastic views at the peak and there is a timber footpath to another peak. Very awesome, windy and slightly cold, I wish I had trousers on! We saw a family of deers and at the other peak there were a family of chipmunks running around.
On the way down there was massive queues to get down, at the bottom of the mountain whilst waiting for the coach there was an elk.
We headed back to the hotel, others that booked O'Canada excursion which we decided to miss. Feedback from that was that it was quite good. We spent the evening to ourselves and headed into town for a bite. Our final meal was at Buffalo Bills, you had to be over 25, it had quite a pleasant atmosphere and nice food. We retired back to our rooms for our next journey to Jasper.
