Hey my uncle has this system I have been looking for the drivers on the internet to downgrade to xp professional as he does not like vista (hardly any suprises there).

I would be greatful for links to all the necessary drivers, the advent site seems to be down and everywhere else has vista drivers:

I usually use dells so can get drivers easily for them:

So if anyone has the list of drivers for xp professional and also, the right order to install them in please render assistance.

Advent 7113 battery problems

I have had this advent 7113 for over a year now, and have had many problems with it, it had to go and be repaired twice because the battery and screen were causing me many problems, so because i needed a computer for my college work i bought another laptop of a different make, and now i use that one more, but i still use the advent every few weeks, but the other day i started experiencing a problem, i plug it into the mains and it loads, i look at the battery icon and it says its empty which firstly i dont think is right because i fully charged it the last time i used it. I hovered over the icon and it said "0% battery, plugged in not charging". Last time it went for repair in January it had a "new battery" because the other one kept losing charge after 10 minutes, also when i had it running of the mains my mum tripped over the mains lead and pulled it out and it went off, so that concluded that the battery was empty. But the thing is i'm not sure if its the battery at fault or the mains cable just not charging the battery! Does anyone have any ideas, and if its the battery does anyone know where i can get one from. Thanks!

Advent 9617 Sound Driver help wanted

I done everything like you said but it still doesn't work, I can't install driver from device menager, cause ther is no sound card. I realy don't know what to do. I tried with realtek 1.67 (the same is on cd "vista driver') for Xp, and I tried with realtek 1.69. Have you got any ideas what I supposed to do?? thanks for your help.

Same problem here, i bought a dell psu, de soldered all the wires and re soldered the advent black and white wires and now no power, is there anybody out there that knows how to get these working???

You need to set the video output from 1 to 2 devices.
Plug in the TV and open the Intel GMA Graphics icon in Control panel.
Select Multiple Display. Intel clone. The picture should appear on both TV and notebook.

Have a look in Device Manager, the WLAN should be listed with an exclamation mark against it. If you right click and select Update driver then Browse my computer for driver software. and finally enter the location of the unzipped Realtek driver.

Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum, I repair loads of these laptops motherboards for a living.

The most common fault I find in these laptops, especially no power at all, no lights, nothing, is there is a surface mount capacitor on the motherboard which always blows. The job of this capacitor is to store electric charge - between the positive and negative is a dielectric material, which is supposed to insulate between the two, while one side gathers electrons and the other loses an equal amount. What's happening is this dielectric breaks down, and allows current to flow causing a short circuit, so all the current goes through that capacitor, causing the switch mode power to shutdown, hence laptop not powering up. The quick fix is to remove the capacitor and replace it with a new one, not sure what value it is but likely to be much more than 100nF with over 25 working volts or more. It is of a 1206 size. It is near the white mains power connector (on top of the fan) on the motherboard (processor side), it is brown coloured and labelled on the motherboard as "PC123". To check the capacitor is shorted out, use a multi-meter set to continuity check (bleeps when you short the two probes) and put the probes between the capacitor. If the meter bleeps, the capacitor's blown! Replace by taking off with a small heat gun, and soldering a new one on. Use the multimeter again to check for shorting, it should make a "blip" noise or no noise, but not continuous beep! If it still does that it's a different capacitor or component, but usually it's "PC123".

Advent 7081

Hi folks
I have a problem with my Advent 7081, it will start up then cut out, first i checked the heatsink fan as it had stopped working i replaced it , this has not fixed the problem unless my new heatsink and fan is faulty.
any ideas will be appriciated.

Advent 8212 Replacement battery

Have you tried the latest Bios update

I downloaded an update a few weeks ago which made no difference to the shutting down problem and turned the fan on to almost full speed
I went back to PC world who gave me details on a pick up repair service
I did not get round to sending it and checked out the Advent web site to find there was another update to the Bios

Summary
BIOS firmware version 1.04 for the Advent 8112, 8212 and 9212 with additional optimisations to improve battery life and power management.
This BIOS update supersedes the previous release and it is recommended that all users install this update

This 2nd bios cured the shutdown issue. No shutdowns for 3 weeks

s-video to tv from laptop

i am using an advent 8111 laptop when i try to connect to samsung lcd tv the screen on tv shows laptop loading windows then the tv goes blank and the laptop screen comes on and loads up but tv screen shows nothing and just comes up no signal on th screen

The 9912 is an ECS S20 II
I think you'll find that 2GB is the maximum memory for this chassis.

Accessing 7103 Inverter

Hi can anyone enlighten me as to how I can get access to the inverter on an Advent 7103 so that I can change it? I have taken the 2 silver screws of the lower corners of the front panel, 3 black screws from each side of the screen panel and two black screws from the top of the panel but nothing has been loosened so I thought I'b better ask here before trying to force the panel off and breaking something. I've googled for dissassembly guides but couldn't find anything.

i read throught it 10x and done it all to try fix my computer that is broke with the same proplem, to find out that that machine is a laptop.....

basicly, i have just had my OS (XP Pro Media Edition 2005) re-installed (at a shop) and i went to put on tv, so i clicked media centre and got this......

As you can see, no TV option, so i went to settings, clicked TV, and got this message.....

i took it out (the card) before i had the re-install to clean out the full system as it was covered in dust, put it back thinking the re-install would pick it up, but it hasnt. im sure the driver is missing/wrong driver but im totally lost!!!

No yellow exclimation marks next to the drivers in device manager, ive been on the tech guys website for ages looking and trying things to no avail and still no TV!

im canny with computers, but im not amazing so i need all the help i can get... please guys, its driving me crazy having no tv lol

Probably through DSGi support which is The TechGuys. They will only replace the board in their own workshops. Cost is mega$$
The Advent brand is Dixons own although the notebook is manufactured by ECS/Uniwill and is a variant of the L51 II.
If you look through the model number topic in this forum there are quite a few Advents based on the L51 II.

Install Windows XP on 8117

It has been done. The main problem is getting XP to recognise the SATA hard drive.
You need to install Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller drivers from a floppy or slipstream them into an XP install disk.
The remaining hardware drivers are available from the relevant manufacturers.

That's good.
Having the recovery disk should make things a lot easier if you want to replace the hard drive yourself. Just swap the drive and reboot with the recovery CD in and it should rebuild everything from scratch. There's more information at the TechGuys site

Don't forget to backup all your personal data first.
Any additional software you installed will also need reinstalling.

Just take it down to Currys or wherever and they will replace the motherboard for free.

3115 recovery failure

Hi all,

I've been having some trouble with my PC and decided to recover it to fix the problem. There's no recovery option in the system tools menu (only restore) so I found the disc that was supplied with the computer and used that. It spends 10 minutes copying the new files and and then asks me to remove the disc and restart the computer but when I do that windows won't start. When I try to staret it in safe mode I get an error message saying windows is not properly installed. It seems to have not installed all of the necessary files to be able restart windows. Does anyone know if this can be fixed? I chose the quick format option so there is no backup of my previous version of windows either.

i tick the "toggle " key for "caps lock,then "apply",but i cant llick " save" because it ,(save), is greyed out thanks
